1974 BMW R90 Spezial

My most ambitious motorcycle project to date. I acquired this retired race bike from a friend and co-worker who purchased it in 1976 from the bank as a repossession from the original owner. By 1977 it was a full-time road race bike that never saw the street again. Once sponsored by BMW of Denver, this bike was on the podium of the AMA Battle of the Twins Race at Second Creek Raceway in 1985.

With great attention to detail, the engine, transmission, forks, and final drive were rebuilt by Airhead Guru David Grunberger. The engine retains the race spec hardware, while incorporating many tricks of the trade David has acquired over his decades as a Master BMW Technician and Airhead restoration specialist.

Welding and the machining of several bespoke parts was expertly carried out by Dave Huckabee.  His passion for motorcycles and his craft is quite evident in his approach and execution

Failing clear coat was stripped. Outer lips polished to high luster. All bolt holes in barrels were thread chased, all titanium hardware was cleaned of thread lock residue. Centers were blasted, refinished in Porsche White Gold urethane enamel base coat with multiple coats urethane matte clear. True Racing Dynamics center caps finish off upgraded wheel package. Final result of many hours of labor.
